About Robert Cary Hair Design

Historic Building in MontereyRobert Cary has built a reputation for over 40 years as one of the most gifted artists on the Monterey Peninsula today.

After finishing college, he studied with several of Europe's top stylists and was trained in men's haircutting by the late Jay Seabring. He mastered the techniques in both razor and scissor hair-cutting, texturizing, and hair coloring from classic dry cuts to modern, natural looking styles.

Dedicated and passionate about his craft, his specialty has always been tailoring looks to suit the individual beauty in each person. Known for his precision cutting techniques and an eye for rich, beautiful color, this seasoned stylist possesses the vision and ability to personalize each cut and color for every client that sits in his chair.

A native of Carmel-by-the-Sea, Robert began to build his loyal clientele when he opened his first salon in Carmel on Ocean Avenue.  For the past 35 years his shop has been in beautiful downtown Monterey, in the historic adobe that was built in 1804 for Juan Bautista Alvarado, the first governor of California.

Robert has many women clients who have come to him for years and almost as many men clients. He does hair color for both men and women using All-Nutrient, the only 100% Certified Organic ammonia-free color on the market to keep the hair healthy and happy.
